Theatre Work

My work in theatre explores the human condition, the complexities of power and identity, and the stories that shape how we see ourselves and the world. As a playwright and theatre producer, I'm interested in human psychology and the intricate relationships we develop with ourselves and others, examining the tensions, contradictions and defining moments that shape our lives.

MARIA/La Callas

MARIA/La Callas by Elizabeth Filippouli is a cinematic theatre portrait of Maria Callas, the extraordinary woman behind the voice, and the people who helped create, challenge, love, betray and ultimately define her. From her difficult childhood and complicated relationship with her mother, through her transformation into the great opera diva, Callas's life unfolds through the relationships that marked her journey. The people closest to her become mirrors, catalysts and antagonists: those who demanded more from her, those who loved her, those who exploited her, those who competed for her attention, and those who could never quite see the woman beneath the diva. www.marialacallas.com

ALEXANDROS The Musical

What if a neurodivergent teenager who feels voiceless and abandoned could meet the myths that taught the world to dream big?

Elizabeth Filippouli pairs a contemporary story of resilience with the vast mythology surrounding Alexandros, a fascinating historical figure, the play explores themes like friendship, loyalty, love, as well as identity, resilience and empowerment.

The young Cosmo’s journey is deeply personal yet universally resonant. It is the experience of many young people who feel labeled, silenced, or unseen and often struggle (alone) with mental health issues.

Alexandros the Play: Between Dreams and Imagination

Based on a modern epic poem by Greek playwright Stamatis Filippoulis, Alexandros: Between Dreams and Imagination is inspired by stories around legendary Macedonian king Alexander the Great and his hunger for knowledge and search for the true meaning of ‘greatness’.
